  • Summary of the 2024 CSI Annual Meeting (the 16th CSI Congress of Immunology)

    From October 24-27, 2024, the "16th Annual Meeting of the Chinese Society for Immunology (CSI)" was held in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, hosted by the Chinese Society for Immunology, co-organized by the Zhejiang Society of Immunology and the Immunology Research Institute of Zhejiang University. The congress set new records in terms of academic level, number of abstract submissions, and attendance scale. During the congress, the "9th CSI General Assembly" was held, and the new board of CSI council was elected. The following are the achievements of the congress:1. The CSI Annual Meeting’s attractiveness has continued to grow steadily, based on years of ensuring high-quality academic exchanges and congress services. Despite significant growth last year, the number of abstract submissions and attendance still made a new history record. The congress received a total of 1,357 abstracts and had 4,199 registered representatives. Including invited speakers, exhibitor representatives, and volunteers, the on-site attendance exceeded 5,000 people.2. The outstanding invited talks played an academic leading role. The international forum of this congress featured eight distinguished speakers, including: Professor Frederick Alt from Harvard Medical School, Professor Zhijian Chen from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, Professor Lieping Chen from Yale University School of Medicine, Professor Thirumala-Devi Kanneganti from St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Professor Mitchell Kronenberg from La Jolla Institute for Immunology, Professor Tomohiro Kurosaki from Osaka University, Professor Qiang Pan-Hammarström from the Karolinska Institute, and Professor Graham Ogg from the University of Oxford.There were 27 talks by domestic invited lecturers, 7 of which were made by academicians including Professor Xuetao Cao from the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, Professor Zhigang Tian from the University of Science and Technology of China, and Professor Yuzhang Wu from the Army Medical University; 10 talks on the forefront of immunology led by Professor Bo Huang from the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences Peking Union Medical College and Professor Yiwei Chu from Fudan University; and 10 speeches by young immunologists led by Professor Shu Zhu from the University of Science and Technology of China.A total of 35 plenary lectures brought numerous global frontier topics in immunology-related fields, including gene rearrangement of immunoglobulins, the role of cGAS in inflammation, non-inflammatory tumor immunology, molecular mechanisms of innate immunity and inflammation in health and disease, innate-like T cells, the function and generation mechanism of memory B cells, genomic instability of B cells and lymphoma formation, CD1a reactive T cells and skin diseases, the role of hnRNP-A2B1 and innate sensing molecules in tumor immune evasion and immunotherapy, CD49a+ NK cells, pre-existing immunity and immune intervention, among others. High-level lectures and Q&A sessions helped participants understand the latest discoveries in the field, open up research ideas, and improve academic innovation capabilities. The presentations by young immunologists are evidences of more and more outstanding young talents emerging and gradually becoming the backbone of the immunology community.3. The atmosphere of parallel symposia and poster sessions was intense. The academic committee reviewed nearly 1,400 abstract submissions and selected 300 oral presentations in 19 parallel symposia during two and a half days. In addition, 292 posters were selected. Together with oral presentations, the congress was providing ample opportunities for display and discussion. The enthusiasm of the participants was high, and there were frequent scenes of packed audiences in hot topics such as "Tumor Immune Recognition and Escape," "Innate Immune Recognition, Regulation, and Inflammatory Response," and "Immune Metabolism."4. Special forums and other activities further enriched the content of the congress. Following last year's meeting, the number of pre-congress forums was further expanded to eight: Hong Kong and Macao Forum, Frontier Theories and Techniques in Tumor Immunity Forum, Immune Metabolism and Disease, Biomechanics & Immunity, Cutaneous Immunity, Intestinal Mucosal Immunity, Clinical Immunotherapy Forum, and Young Immunologist Forum. Representatives actively participated, and the response was enthusiastic.During the congress, the CSI Working Committee on Science Popularization and Education organized the "Medical Immunology" series textbook launch, distributing textbooks to lucky representatives. The well-received "Editors Face to Face" event, featuring senior editors like Dr. Zhe Wang from Nature Cell Biology and Dr. Qingyu Huang from Nature Communications, facilitated deep exchanges with representatives, assisting and encouraging them to publish their academic achievements.5. The 9th CSI General Assembly was successfully held on October 24. The Assembly elected the 9th board of council members. Prof. Bo Huang was elected CSI president; Prof. Zhi Yao, Prof. Yiwei Chu, Prof. Anlong Xu, Prof. Sidong Xiong, and Prof. Baojun Zhang were elected as vice presidents; Prof. Yuzhang Wu was elected chairman of the supervisory board; and Prof. Limin Zheng was appointed as the secretary-general. The 9th board consists of 139 council members and among them 40 executive members. During the congress, the 4th CSI Nomenclature Committee held its re-election meeting, with Prof. Zhi Yao elected as the new chairman; the 7th Committee of the CSI Veterinary Immunology Branch held its re-election meeting, with Prof. Chengjun Li elected as the new chairman.6. The 12th CSI Academic Award-Young Scholar Award was awarded. 10 outstanding young scholars, including Dr. Yingjiao Cao from Sun Yat-sen University, received the award. The award ceremony was held at the closing ceremony of the congress, recognizing advanced achievements while inspiring all young people to strive for scientific peaks.7. Under the leadership of the 8th CSI board of council members, the congress academic committee and organizing committee invested a lot of effort in top-level design, overall arrangement, management, and supervision. The volunteer team, organized and recruited by the Zhejiang Society of Immunology from 13 units across the province, made a significant contribution to on-site services and logistical support.8. The congress received unwavering support from the sponsors.   • Summary of the 2023 CSI Annual Meeting (the 15th CSI Congress of Immunology)

    Organized by Chinese Society for Immunology (CSI), the 2023 CSI Annual Meeting (the 15th CSI Congress of Immunology) was held from November 2nd to November 5th in Suzhou, Jiangsu Provence. With the co-work of CSI members and meeting participants, the 2023 CSI Annual Meeting was a big success in the following aspects.1. This meeting attracted 3,372 registered delegates from all parts of China, including Hongkong and Macao special administrative regions. The number of abstracts received was 1,280 and made a historical record in the CSI Annual Meetings. Adding up the sponsor delegates and volunteers, more than 4,200 were present at the meeting.2. 33 leading immunologists including Prof. Xuetao Cao, Prof. Zhigang Tian and Prof. Yuzhang Wu were invited to give plenary lectures. The main topics were the hotspots in the field of immunology: research on innate immune molecules and cell death and immunotherapy, synthetic immunotechnology for cell therapy, HIA on going in China: Eve cell, activation of antitumor immunity by bacteria-derived signals, Regulation of T cell function in cancer, and et al.3. 20 symposia were organized to discuss topics including differentiation and development of immune cells; innate immune recognition, regulation and inflammation response; immunometabolism, immune regulation and infection immunity; tumor immunity and tumor immunotherapy; autoimmune diseases and allergy diseases; traditional medicine immune regulation; immunological interdisciplinary research. Selected from the received abstracts, 281 participants gave oral presentations in the symposia and 242 participants presented their works by posters. Meanwhile, "Translational Immunology Symposium" and "The 2023 Annual Meeting of Committee on the Status of Women" were held.4. 5 premeeting forums were organized to enrich the whole program, and they were: "Hongkong and Macao Forum", "Women Immunologist Forum", "Young Immunologist Forum", "Tumor Immunology Forum" and "Interdisciplinary Immunology Forum". In the "Meet the Editors" symposium, 7 senior editors including Dr. Peter Lee from Cell Immunity and Dr. Zhe Wang from Nature Cell Biology shared their ideas on scientific publications with participants.5. The ceremony of 11th CSI Academic Awards were held and 21 immunologists were honored for their distinguished works in the field. Prof. Debing Wang from Peking University People's Hospital was awarded the 11th CSI Lifetime Achievement Award. Prof. Xiaoming Yang from China National Biotec Group Company Limited and Prof. Baoen Shan from Hebei Medical University were awarded the 11th CSI Outstanding Scholar Award. 18 early career researchers were presented with the 11th CSI Young Investigator Award.6. Organized by Suzhou Institute of Systems Medicine and Suzhou Medical College of Soochow University, 60 volunteers provided excellent service to the meeting onsite organization.7. 99 companies sponsored this meeting, and many of them are long term partners with CSI such as BD Biosciences, China National Biotec Group Company Limited, Dakewe Biotech, and Thermo Fisher Scientific. They demonstrated the latest projects, promoted new products, and together with all meeting participants, looked forward to more promising immunology future.At the closing ceremony, Prof. Yuzhang Wu, the CSI President announced the 2024 CSI Annual Meeting (the 16th CSI Congress of Immunology) will be held in Hangzhou.

  • Summary of the 2021 CSI Annual Meeting (the 14th CSI Congress of Immunology)

    Organized by Chinese Society for Immunology (CSI), the 2021 CSI Annual Meeting (the 14th CSI Congress of Immunology) was held from October 21st to October 24th in Chengdu. With the help of all CSI members and participants this meeting was a successful one in the following senses.1. This meeting attracted 2,087 registered delegates from all parts of China. The number of abstracts received was 899. Adding up the sponsor delegates and volunteers more than 2,600 were present at the meeting.2. 30 leading immunologists including 6 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chinese Academy of Engineering (Prof. Xuetao Cao, Prof. Zhigang Tian, Prof. Chen Dong, Prof. Feng Shao, Prof. Yuquan Wei, Prof. Fusheng Wang) were invited to give plenary lectures. The main topics were the hotspots in the field of immunology: New innate sensors in immunity, inflammation and cancer; liver-resident NK cells; T cell exhaustion and immune dynamics; T follicular helper cells; the essential roles of LRRK2 in lung homeostasis and pulmonary fibrosis; drug-loaded tumor microparticles; regulatory B lymphocytes in diseases; new strategies to improve tumor microenvironment.3. 17 symposia were organized to discuss topics including differentiation and development of immune cells; innate immune recognition, regulation and inflammation response; immunometabolism and immune regulation; COVID-19 immunity and infection immunity; tumor immunity and tumor immunotherapy; autoimmune diseases and allergy diseases; traditional medicine immune regulation; immunological interdisciplinary research. 208 from the received abstracts were selected to give oral presentations in the symposia and 155 were presented as posters. In the “Meet the Editors” symposium senior editors from international journals shared their thoughts on details of scientific publications and answered participants’ questions.4. The 10th Academic Awards of CSI (CSI Lifetime Achievement Award, CSI Outstanding Scholar Award, CSI Young Investigator Award) were awarded in the opening and closing ceremonies and altogether 13 immunologists were honored for their distinguished works in the field. Prof. Xirui Ge from Shanghai Institute of Biochemistry and Cell Biology of Chinese Academy of Sciences was awarded the 10th CSI Lifetime Achievement Award. Prof. Changlong Lv from China Medical University and Prof. Sidong Xiong from Soochow University were awarded the 10th CSI Outstanding Scholar Award. 10 early career researchers were presented with the 10th CSI Young Investigator Award.5. Organized by Sichuan Society for Immunology, 39 students from Sichuan University, Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Southwest Jiaotong University, University of Electronic Science and Technology of China and Chengdu Medical College provided volunteer service for the meeting and did a great job.6. 70 companies sponsored this meeting, and many of them are long term partners of CSI such as BD Biosciences, Polaris Biology, Dakewe Biotech, BioLegend (Beijing), Thermo Fisher Scientific and Cytek Biosciences.     The 13th CSI Annual Meeting has been held from 7 to 10, November, 2018 in Shanghai. 2,318 registered attendants participated in the meeting, and 925 abstracts were submitted to the meeting.29 invited world leading immunologists (17 national and 12 international) gave plenary lectures.195 immunologists presented their latest findings in 15 symposia, while 111 posters selected from the abstracts were discussed during the meeting. This year, CSI also organized an International Young Immunologist Symposium, in which 14 international young immunologists from 7 countries (USA, UK, Germany, Israel, Switzerland, Netherland, and Australia) were selected and sponsored.The year of 2018 is the 30th Anniversary of CSI’s foundation. On the night of November 7, around 1,000 delegates and representatives from provincial societies celebrated this special occasion with dances, songs and even Taiji show. During the ceremony presidents from the American, British, German, Japanese and Australian immunological societies gave speeches to congratulate CSI and expressed faith in the immunological development, both in basic and clinical fields. “The 8th Academic Awards of CSI (CSI Lifetime Achievement Award, CSI Outstanding Scholar Award, CSI Young Investigator Award)” was awarded in this ceremony and altogether 12 immunologists were honored for their distinguished works in the field. Among them, Prof. Yumei Wen from Fudan University was awarded the 8th CSI Lifetime Achievement Award, Prof. Zhi Yao from Tianjin Medical University, Prof. Guanxin Shen from Tongji Medical College were awarded the 8th CSI Outstanding Scholar Award.To prepare the IUIS 2019 (17th International Congress of Immunology), CSI and IUIS executives had 2 meetings (Scientific Committee Meeting and Organizing Committee Meeting) discussing details about the meeting scientific programme and organizing. The meeting will be held in Beijing (China National Conventional Center) from 19 to 23, October, 2019. As the host of the meeting, CSI Secretary General, Prof. Xuetao Cao is the Chair of Steering Committee & Scientific Committee, and CSI President, Prof. Zhigang Tian is the Co-chair of Organizing Committee & Abstract Committee.

    The 12th CSI Annual Meeting has been held 26-29 October, 2017 in Tianjin Meijiang Conventional Center. It has been the 4th meeting since the CSI Meeting is held annually. 2,104 registered attendants participated in the meeting, and 1,056 abstracts were submitted to the meeting.27 invited world leading immunologists (17 national and 10 international) gave plenary lectures. 219 immunologists presented their latest findings in over 20 symposia, while 117 scientific posters were discussed during the meeting.In this year, CSI also organized an International Young Immunologist Symposium, in which 10 international young immunologists from 7 countries (USA, UK, Germany, Japan, Canada, South Korea, and Singapore) are selected and sponsored.Furthermore, “The 7th Academic Awards of CSI (CSI Lifetime Achievement Award, CSI Outstanding Scholar Award, CSI Young Investigator Award)” was awarded in the opening ceremony and closing ceremony, and altogether 13 immunologists were honored for their distinguished works in the field. Among them, Prof. Zhengyan Cui from Shandong Academy of Medical Sciences was awarded the 7th CSI Lifetime Achievement Award, Prof. Shuren Zhang from Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences & Peking Union Medical College, Prof. Xiaoning Wang from PLA General Hospital were awarded the 7th CSI Outstanding Scholar Award.Last but not the least, CSI and IUIS executives had 2 meetings (Scientific Committee Meeting and Organizing Committee Meeting) talking and discussing issues concerning the 17th International Congress of Immunology, which will be held in Beijing (China National Conventional Center) in 2019. Agreements have been made about the scientific committee structure and task assignment, meeting place allocation, meeting timelines and budget. Prof. Xuetao Cao is the Chair of Steering Committee & Scientific Committee, and Prof. Zhigang Tian is the Co-chair of Organizing Committee & Abstract Committee.

    The 2016 CSI Congress has been held 4-7 November 2016 in Hefei, Anhui Province. 2,041 registered attendants participated in the meeting, and 1,115 abstracts were submitted to the meeting. 29 invited world leading immunologists (18 national and 11 international) gave plenary lectures. 241 immunologists presented their latest findings in over 20 symposia, while 140 scientific posters were discussed during the meeting. In this year, CSI also organized an International Young Immunologist Symposium, in which 15 international young immunologists from 7 countries (USA,UK, Germany, Japan, Italy, France) are selected and sponsored.     The 2015 CSI Congress has been held 14-17 December 2015 in Beijing. More than 1,800 registered attendants participated in the meeting. 34 invited world leading immunologists (19 national and 15 international) including professor Frederick Alt from Harvard University, professor Jacques Miller from Melbourne University, professor Zhijian Chen from the UT Southwestern Medical Center, Dallas, USA, professor Ronald Germain from the National Institutes of Health, and Professor Andreas Radbruch from Deutsches Rheuma-Forschungszentrum Berlin (DRFZ) Germany gave plenary lectures. 284 immunologists presented their latest findings in over 20 symposia. In this year, CSI also organized an international young immunologist symposium, in which 11 international young immunologists from 7 countries (the United States, Britain, Germany, Japan, Australia, France, India) are selected and sponsored.     The 2014 CSI Congress has been held 18-21 October 2014 in Jinan, Shandong Province. 2,267 registered attendants participated in the meeting. 26 invited world leading immunologists (11 national and 15 international) including Professor Wayne M. Yokoyama from Howard Hughes Medical Institute, Professor Michael Karin from University of California, San Diego, Professor Matthew Freeman from University of Oxford, Professor Reinhold E.
