From February 28 to March 2, the 2025 Annual Secretary-General Meeting of the Chinese Society for Immunology (CSI) was held in Guangzhou, Guangdong Province. CSI President Prof. Bo Huang and 60 representatives from CSI branches, journal editorial offices, and local immunology societies attended the meeting. The meeting was presided over by CSI Secretary-General Professor Limin Zheng.

The meeting was guided by Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, focusing on the Party and the state's deployment of science and technology associations and work, in line with the specific requirements for deepening reform of the society set by the China Association for Science and Technology and the Ministry of Civil Affairs. It aimed to continuously elevate CSI and the field of immunology to new levels and heights, building a society and technology powerhouse with Chinese characteristics.

1. Report by Professor Qiubai Li on the Implementation Plan of the Basic Immunology Knowledge Education Class for Grassroots Doctors

To implement the core spirit of the State Council Office's "Opinions on Further Deepening Reform to Promote Healthy Development of Rural Medical and Health Systems" and the National Health Commission's "14th Five-Year Plan for Health and Health Talent Development" focusing on "Strengthening the Grassroots and Filling Shortcomings," the Chinese Society for Immunology officially launched the Basic Immunology Knowledge Education Class for Grassroots Doctors in 2025. The project, led by CSI in collaboration with the CSI Committee on Autoimmunity and the Rheumatology and Immunology Department of Wuhan Union Hospital, aims to narrow the gap between urban and rural medical services and support the deepening of the "hierarchical diagnosis and treatment" system through standardized training. The primary task in 2025 is to compile the "Handbook of Basic Immunology and Diagnosis and Treatment of Autoimmune Diseases for Grassroots Doctors" and carry out pilot work in Hubei Province, gradually covering 20 counties in Hubei through online and offline teaching. The project also includes public science education work, such as popularizing basic disease knowledge, diagnosis and treatment, life management, and frontier progress. The expected benefits of the project mainly include two aspects: 1) through systematic training, enhancing grassroots doctors' awareness of basic immunology knowledge, enabling them to master the latest international diagnostic and treatment technologies and research dynamics, improving the scientific nature of clinical decisions, and reducing misdiagnosis and mistreatment; 2) through public science education, improving the public's awareness of autoimmune diseases, reducing delays in seeking medical treatment due to lack of knowledge, forming a "professional training + public education" dual health promotion model, contributing to the realization of the "Healthy China 2030" goal of "whole life cycle health management."

2. Report by President Bo Huang on "One Hundred Scientists Giving Party Lectures"

During the meeting, President Bo Huang delivered a report on two themes: "Building a First-Class Society under the Innovation-Driven Strategy" and "Development of Immunology with Original Innovation Under the Leadership of the Party."

In the first part, President Bo Huang emphasized the strategic significance of technology, talent, and innovation as the foundation and driving forces for comprehensive socialist modernization, as proposed by President Xi Jinping. He outlined the tasks and missions of science and technology associations under the technological innovation development strategy, which include: 1) an important link to unite and rally the vast number of scientific and technological workers (organizational cohesion); 2) an important platform for conducting scientific research and technological innovation (academic leadership); 3) an important force for promoting the transformation and dissemination of technological innovation achievements (innovation achievement transformation); 4) an important mission for cultivating technological innovation talents (innovation talent cultivation); 5) an important responsibility for popularizing immunology knowledge to the public (public science education); 6) an important function for international cultural and technological exchanges (international exchange). President Huang discussed the work priorities and reform directions of the Chinese Society for Immunology in these six aspects and introduced the society's party building and organizational work and key academic work arrangements for 2025.

In the second part, President Huang reviewed China's major scientific research achievements from the perspective of the history of Chinese science and technology and discussed the relationship between Chinese tradition and science and technology since the era of the "Hundred Schools of Thought Contend." He pointed out that under the party's leadership, new China has established institutional guarantees for the development of Chinese science and technology, allowing continuous achievements at unprecedented heights. President Huang highlighted that China's immunology field is experiencing rapid development and facing significant changes. He called for remembering history, facing the future, and conscientiously carrying out all aspects of work within the society under the leadership of the party, striving to continuously promote the development of China's immunology field and build a world-leading science and technology powerhouse with Chinese characteristics.

3. Report on Party Building Work by Secretary Zhubo Chen of the CSI Secretariat

As the party branch secretary of the Chinese Society for Immunology office, Secretary Zhubo Chen introduced the society's party building work under the leadership of the Party Committee of the China Association for Science and Technology, which includes three levels of party building structures: the Party Committee of the CSI Council, the Party Branch of the CSI office (Secretariat), and the Party Working Groups of the CSI committees. Six of the 16 committees have established party working groups, and the remaining committees are urged to establish them as soon as possible and carry out characteristic party building work. The meeting also conveyed the spirit of the recent special meeting on strengthening ideological risk prevention convened by the China Association for Science and Technology, pointing out the issues that should be noted in strengthening ideological risk prevention within the society, emphasizing the need to strengthen risk prevention awareness while carrying out society work and to safeguard the propaganda front.

4. Report by CSI Accountant Hongmei Wu on the "Financial Management Regulations for Academic Conferences of the CSI Committees"

The meeting pointed out that to ensure the stable and rapid development of the Chinese Society for Immunology and its committees, further standardized management in financial work is essential. According to the guidelines on financial supervision of the society in the "Opinions on Strengthening the Standardized Construction of Social Organizations and Promoting High-Quality Development of Social Organizations", combined with the specific measures in the "Financial Management System of the Chinese Society for Immunology," the report focused on three aspects of work: 1) national policy requirements and interpretations, 2) financial reimbursement processes, and 3) new regulations on labor expenditures. The content of the lecture was rich, detailed, practical, and received enthusiastic responses from the participants.

5. Annual Reports of CSI Committees, Journal Editorial Offices, and Local Immunology Societies

In the fifth part of the meeting, 15 CSI committees, 3 journal editorial offices, and 28 local immunology societies summarized their work of 2024 and reported their work plans for 2025.

President Bo Huang and Secretary-General Limin Zheng provided comments and exchanges on each report, acknowledging the highlights of each unit's work and proposing further improvement requirements and suggestions. After the report exchanges, the meeting emphasized that 2025 is the final year of the 14th Five-Year Plan of the country. We must firmly grasp the historical mission of science and technology associations, carry out important work on organizational cohesion, frontier leadership, technology transformation, talent cultivation, international exchange, and public science education under the leadership of the Party, and continuously contribute to the construction of a high-level science and technology powerhouse.
