Organized by International Union of Immunological Societies (IUIS) and Chinese Society for Immunology (CSI), the 17th International Congress of Immunology (IUIS 2019) academic and organizing committee meeting was held on June 9, 2019, in Suzhou, China. Prof. Xuetao Cao (IUIS 2019 Chair and Chair of academic committee), Prof. Vijay Kuchroo (Vice Chair of IUIS 2019 academic committee), Prof. Zhigang Tian (Chair of IUIS 2019 organizing committee), Prof. Michael Ratcliffe (Treasurer of IUIS), Prof. Yuzhang Wu, (Vice President of CSI), Prof. Yiwei Chu (Chair of CSI Committee on the Status of Woman), and staff of IUIS central office and CSI secretariat.
During the meeting, progress of the congress preparation was updated. During the past year, the congress programme has been completing solidly and steadily. Till now, 57 speakers for Keynote Lecture, Plenary Lecture and Major Symposium Lecture have been confirmed and their speech time secured. Facing the fact that among the above 88 speakers to whom we sent invitation letters female ones got a high rate at both decline and no response, the academic committee specially chose female speakers of Symposium Lecture as many as possible, and half of the invitation letters were sent to female scientists (149/312). As a result, the percentage of confirmed total female speakers is 43% (74/171), similar to the last two Congress in Melbourne (year 2016) and Milan (year 2013). As for the abstract submission, the meeting has received 3,757 abstract and 1,003 of them applying for oral presentation.
For the second half of the meeting major issues for the next stop were discussed thoroughly and decisions were made, including workshop arrangement, travel grants, abstract reviewing and poster screening, and IUIS committee and sister society sessions.
